Frequently Asked Questions

All cameras listed under the IP Camera Support List are supported. We recommend installing cameras that support FHD 1920×1080 resolution and support 20 FPS (frames per second) or higher. Refer to the Admin Guide for more information.
What notification methods are supported when an event is triggered?
You can set up custom alerts via email, SMS, and the DS cam mobile app.
Can Surveillance Station detect strangers and issue alerts?
Yes. Using the facial recognition feature, alerts can be sent out when the system detects a person that cannot be matched to an existing entry. See the Face Recognition Admin Guide for additional information.
Can the facial recognition feature be used together with door controllers and other devices to implement multi-step security processes?
Yes. Surveillance Station has support for Axis Door Controller, I/O modules, IP speakers, POS systems, and other devices. By setting up action rules, you can leverage the events on one device to trigger another action somewhere else.
How does the system handle lighting changes, shadows, and weather conditions such as rain?
Leveraging advanced algorithms powered by the GPU, Surveillance Station’s People and Vehicle detection functionality can detect and differentiate between those objects of interest with high accuracy, even in more challenging lighting environments.
What external integration / API capabilities are supported?
Surveillance Station API can be used to customize deployments for specific needs. For example, you can perform external analysis and bookmark frames of interest, pass facial recognition or people counting results to an external system. For more information, refer to the API Document.
Does the DVA support NAS functionality found on other devices running DSM?
Synology DVA series supports most features found on other Synology NAS and has access to Synology Package Center. For a comprehensive list of supported add-ons, refer to the supported package list.
